Dear Sandra and family, my deepest condolences.

I pray that his soul may rest in peace.

Feels like yesterday, but it was way back in 1965, on a sunny morning that I first met Walter together with his friend Teddy, at our college in Bastora.

Walter is well remembered for his sporting prowess, but I remember him for his warm hearted and gentle nature beneath his tough appearance. Many a times we would meet at Pensao Mapusa and he would share his real life experiences of his days in Africa. Once, talking about cars, he showed me his International Drivers Licence... to us, mere cycle riders those days, it sort of put Walter on a pedestal.... farewell dear friend, we feel much more than words could ever say

Remembering this great guy called Walter....

I knew Walter in Xavier's and later met him for the BMX in Toronto and Goa. We shared a few good conversations and laughs and I found that he was a very disciplined person who was a legend in his time. Although he still looked like a tough guy, he was kind and gentle in his ways.

It is very sad to let go of such a nice guy ....

Walter has left a ton of great memories to all of us.
How in the world could we forget such a loving soul?
My heart is shattered to see him gone. But that is just temporary. Sooner or later, we will all see him in heaven.
That’s the sweetest hope we can bear right now.
Well, as for me, I have good memories of Walter as he was a very dear friend of my husband Val and they both could talk endlessly about sports, their Africa links and their work as both did the same kind of jobs. For Walter, I was the "little" sister of his friend at St Xaviers but had high respect for me and would always complement me for my article writing, every time I met him. To me Walter has just slipped to another but a better place where also my most dearest husband Val is and am sure they shall continue the same talks on football etc. I will always remember him to be a through gentleman and a real Africandar as he had an unique way of bending while he hello-ed. Met him many a times during the BMX in Goa where he was indeed a very active member of the core group. I pray that his soul may rest in peace. I also ask for strength to his wife and his loved ones.

Remembering our dear friend Walter
Walter, we will always remember you with love. We have so many happy memories of you, in sports as a St Xavier’s College Javelin thrower, a lot of them of you playing your guitar, especially your favourite song 16 tons in the college bus for CSU picnics, at Christmas going carol singing to the old age homes, at reunions. Meeting you on our trips to Goa, on your trip to London and in Toronto and Goa for the BMX, reminiscing especially your involvement in Save Goa for the Goans (Don Panna), laughing at shared memories, the good times. Dear Sandra and family, our deepest condolences. Walter, good friend, Rest in Peace, we will miss you.

Walter had an extremely gentle and kind human spirit, he had a mischievous smile yet his eyes radiated a warmth that one felt in his presence.
To many of us who were Hostelites at Xavier's it was an incredible privilege to be his friend. I took great pride in the feeling of safety that no one dared touch me while we walked back to the Hostel from Mapuca on our daily trips to the market.
He was a force to be reckoned with on the Hockey and soccer field. He was an outstanding Athlete winning many first place awards in the throwing field.
Our Jam Sessions in the Hostel with Walter and Hycinth playing the guitars accompanied by Booze were fun times much to the dismay of Fr. Nicaloau.
Goodbye friend you will be dearly missed by all who knew you, you may be gone from our mortal presence but you will always be in our memory.
I will always cherish our friendship.
May you Rest In Peace

Tribute  to a friend,
Walter D' Souza, the quintessential tough guy was the perception people in general had of him.
A man of few words but great deeds, a man of action who fought for what he believed in and never  tired,in the true spirit of a great sportsman that he was.
We were lucky to have known him and privileged to have had the opportunity to spend a great deal of time together, reminiscing some times of the days gone by and at others, talking about our plans, hopes and dreams for Goa.
He played an active role in many a movement for Goa. He was at the time of his death a member of" Mapusa Nagrikancho Ekvott ", an organisation formed for the betterment of Mapusa. He never stayed away from a single meeting even though his health had started to falter.
A person with a big heart, honest to a fault, affectionate, good humoured, open and frank about his opinions, never one to mince words... that was Walter.
He suffered a lot, never complained, and it was  with a smile on his face that he answered " I am fine".
" You fought a good fight to the end, Walter. There are many things I wish I had said......
All I want to say now is: Rest in peace dearest friend and do look down on us, sometimes."

Claudette.
